Introduction
About the Course
Background of New Thought explores the origin and development of the ideas, beliefs and theories that characterize the New Thought movement. The course also looks at the expression of those ideas, beliefs and theories in the various New Thought religions, and briefly examines the work of some of the more notable New Thought writers and teachers. Finally, Background of New Thought investigates the most recent developments in the unfoldment of the New Thought movement.

Learning Objectives
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
  • Offer a definition of New Thought – what it is and what it is not.
  • Identify some of the key figures in the development of the New Thought movement and briefly describe their contributions to New Thought.
  • Identify some of the key similarities and differences among New Thought, Unity and Christian Science.
  • Identify the major New Thought religions and their most significant teachings.
  • Discuss some of the recent developments in New Thought.
