Overview & Syllabus:
Lessons in Truth

Introduction

What This Course Is About
Develop a better understanding of your spiritual nature through the study of metaphysical Truth principles—the fundamental and ultimate reality of all things. The course is based on H. Emilie Cady’s book Lessons in Truth.

For more than100 years, Dr. Cady’s teachings have been the first step many have taken to overcome seeming limitations and develop true freedom. When applied to daily living, these techniques will help you create a happier, more fulfilling life. Take control of your life as you begin to better understand and follow your path for spiritual growth and fulfillment.

How the Course Is Presented
This is a telebridge course. A packet of Learning Guides for each lesson will be forwarded via e-mail or regular postal service. You will be expected to participate in the weekly, hour-long discussions over the telephone while homework assignments are completed during the week at your own pace.

Learning Objectives

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Explain the metaphysical and fundamental reality of all things and how we create our experiences. (Note: Metaphysical refers to the interpretation of things, words, and events beyond what is written. It is going beyond the form and physical circumstances to the real meaning of them.)
  • Detail the methods presented by Dr. Cady for individuals to explore their divinity, overcome limitations, and develop true freedom.
  • Describe the nature of God and identify a situation in which you allowed God to help you.

Required Texts

  • Lessons in Truth (H. Emilie Cady)
  • The Bible (The New Revised Standard Version is recommended, although any version is acceptable.)

Optional Books/Internet Resources/Videos

Requirements for Students
The time required for this course is approximately three hours each week to:

  • Read assigned chapters in the book.
  • Read Bible passages and complete each item in the Study Guide at the end of each assigned chapter.
  • Respond to each item in the Learning Guide.
  • Participate in a one-hour telephone discussion forum weekly.
  • Write a reflection paper. Students are expected to summarize the three concepts which impact them the most from this course and how the integration of these concepts has impacted their lives. While students may seek assistance with editing, the reflections should be their own personal work. The paper should be typed and double spaced, in a 12-point font, and four to five pages (8 ½" x 11") in length. This will be the final project of the class and is due two weeks after the final class session. Papers may be sent via e-mail directly to the instructor. Those wishing to mail the papers via postal service should address the envelope to:
