On-Campus Classes FAQs

How many credits may I take during a week of SEE?
The maximum amount of credits you may take is 40 credits (4 classes). However, due to the amount of reading and homework and processing time required for many of the classes, we recommend students take a maximum of 30 credits (3 classes).

What about off-campus lodging?
If Unity accommodations are filled or you prefer to stay off campus, please contact the Reservations office for assistance. You will be responsible for your transportation to and from the campus facilities. << Back to top

What’s appropriate attire for campus?
Casual clothes and comfortable walking shoes are suitable for most activities.  Although, you may want to pack something special for the Thursday evening candlelight dinner.

We recommend a sweater and a raincoat for spring and summer activities and a warmer coat for the fall.

The lodging area has laundry facilities.  Because the only available transportation is by taxi and the nearest shopping center is approximately two miles away, we suggest that you come well supplied with personal items. << Back to top

Is there a mailing address I can use while I stay on campus?
While at Unity Village, your address will be:
Unity
c/o Reservations Office
1901 NW Blue Parkway
Unity Village, MO 64065-0001

What are acceptable methods of payment?
Checks, cash, and credit card-MasterCard, Discover, American Express, or Visa-are accepted at the bookstore, the Reservations office, and the Unity Inn. These methods of payment are also acceptable for SEE love offerings. << Back to top

What’s the love offering?
Love offerings help keep our programs affordable. Since its inception by the Fillmores, Unity has operated on a love-offering plan, encouraging people to determine the form and amount of their gifts and to continue God’s work. Love offerings received at the Thursday banquet help Unity provide Spiritual Education and Enrichment programs that spiritually, mentally, emotionally and intellectually renew students.  << Back to top

How long is a course?
Each course is taught for 2 hours for 5 consecutive days on campus and during the weeklong SEE-in-the-Field sessions held at various Unity churches. Each class is therefore 10 hours long and is worth 10 credits.

Classes taught at local Unity churches must be at least 5 two-hour classes taught over a minimum of 5 weeks. << Back to top

What is a course session?
A, B and C Session courses are offered three times a year- spring, summer and fall. Each A, B and C Session consists of a total of 12 courses (120 credits) divided into three weeks. For example, the 12 courses in the A Session are divided into three groups of four courses. Each one of these groups is designated A1, A2 or A3. Similarly, there are B1, B2, B3, C1, C2 and C3 Sessions.

For the Spiritual Development Program and the Spiritual Enrichment Program, we recommend courses be taken in order: A1, A2, A3, B1, B2 and B3. However, it is not mandatory that the courses be taken in this order. If you choose to take the courses out of order, we recommend that you be very careful so that you do not have to come for more sessions than necessary.

C Session courses must be taken in order: C1, C2 and C3. << Back to top

Will you allow me to mix and match classes within each session to suit my interests?
We want you to be responsible for your learning and achieve the objectives you’ve set for your spiritual growth. The curriculum we recommend will help you reach those goals, and we’ll be glad to help you make changes in your schedule according to your special interests.

Please note that altering the recommended schedule may mean you’ll have to attend more sessions to fulfill your graduation requirements. We hope you’ll understand that upholding the highest standards for everybody means we can’t make exceptions.

Are individual Leadership Development Program classes available to someone who wants more specialized training or simply wants to continue on the spiritual path?
Yes, Nonviolent Communication and Peacemaking Skills are 2 courses available to anyone regardless of whether or not they have taken any A or B Session courses.  However, the rest of the C Session courses require graduation from the Spiritual Development Program. << Back to top

How do I earn credits in the Spiritual Enrichment Program?
And what does it take to graduate? You must attend all 22 required courses plus three elective courses. While no credit is given, you will be honored with a certificate when you complete this program. The certificate will be given during the graduation ceremony that follows the Thursday evening banquet. << Back to top

How do I earn credits in the Spiritual Development Program? And what does it take to graduate? When you have earned all 250 credits (220 required credits plus 30 elective credits), you’ll be recognized as a graduate of the Spiritual Development Program and receive a diploma. You must complete these credits within 10 years. Credits older than 10 years are obsolete and must be updated for inclusion in a current education program.

Graduates are recognized and honored in a ceremony that follows the Thursday evening banquet. << Back to top

How am I graded? Final grades are "Satisfactory," "Unsatisfactory," "NC" (No Credit due to lack of attendance) and "I" (Incomplete). << Back to top

If each class meets only five times, what is the attendance policy?
Because courses are condensed into one-week sessions, missing a little means missing a lot. Perfect attendance is required of all students wishing to receive course credit.<< Back to top

Can classes be audited?
Yes, and when you do, you aren’t required to prepare assignments. Audited courses appear on your transcript although you receive no credit for them. Because attendance is so important, if you miss a class you’ll be termed a visitor, and your transcript won’t show that you audited the course.

If you audit all our A and B Session classes, you will be granted a certificate of Spiritual Enrichment. << Back to top

After I graduate, may I still take courses?
We believe learning is lifelong, so we hope you will attend SEE courses as often as you like. << Back to top

How do I prepare for courses?
To get the most out of SEE courses, we recommend reading as many of the required books as possible before you arrive. Once you’re here, you’ll want to pace yourself in your studies, leaving time for reflection as you begin to integrate the material into your spiritual life. << Back to top

Where can I order recommended and required reading materials?
Books published by Unity HouseÒ are hyperlinked and available for purchase in our online store. The bookstore located at Unity Village carries additional books, some of which may be listed as required or recommended reading. To purchase books from the Unity Bookstore, please call 816-251-3578, Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (CT) and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (CT). << Back to top
