Who is eligible to apply for the Spiritual Education and Enrichment (SEE) Program?
Anyone eighteen or older may enroll in the SEE Program, and no special background of any kind is required. (Because the courses are designed for adults, no facilities for children are available during SEE sessions.) << Back to top |
 |
| How do I apply?
To apply for SEE sessions at Unity, you must complete the Registration and the Reservation forms found in the catalog. You’ll need to specify the sessions you plan to attend and reserve lodging.
To see if your local Unity church offers week-long SEE courses, click here.
For five-week or longer SEE courses offered by some local churches, contact a Unity church near you.
For online SEE, follow the links from [SEE online Web address].
And if you’re interested in the Leadership Development Program, you may apply for admission only after you’ve completed 120 credits of the Spiritual Development Program. The Leadership classes are only offered on campus at Unity Village, Missouri. << Back to top
|
 |
What happens after I apply?
First, expect to receive confirmation from the Unity Reservations office, assuring you that your room has been reserved and the registration process has begun. For any questions about lodging, meals, or travel, please contact the Reservations office at 816-251-3540.
Second, your suggested class schedule will be sent to you as soon as it is prepared. Contact the SEE registrar at 816-251-3535 (e-mail: see@unityonline.org ) if you have questions concerning your classes or book requirements.
You may complete your registration on campus on the Sunday immediately preceding the Monday opening of each SEE session at Unity. Kansas City area students, please register in advance.
Coursework (including evaluation, credit, and audits) << Back to top
|
 |
How long is a course?
Weeklong SEE courses offered on the Unity Village campus or at some Unity churches count as ten credit hours each and convene five days for two hours a day.
When held at a Unity church, an individual SEE class has the same credit value as the on-campus class. Classes are generally taught for two hours a week over five weeks. << Back to top |
 |
What is a course session?
Sessions of classes are offered three
times a year and are identified as A, the first set
of Spiritual Development Program classes; B, the second
set of Spiritual Program classes; and C, the Leadership
Development Program classes.
Within sessions A, B and C are
the first, second and third sessions of classes.
So you’ll complete the Spiritual Development Program
when you’ve attended, for example, the three sessions
of A and the three sessions of B. << Back to top
|
 |
How do I count credits in the Spiritual Development Program? And what does it take to graduate?
You may take up to 40 credits per session. When you’ve earned the 220 required credits and 30 elective credits, you’ll be recognized as a graduate of the Spiritual Development Program and receive a diploma. You must complete the accumulation of credits within ten years, however. Credits older than that are obsolete and must be updated for inclusion in a current education program.
Graduates are recognized at a Thursday evening banquet held after every SEE session. << Back to top
|
 |
How am I graded?
Final grades are "Satisfactory," "Unsatisfactory," "NC" (No Credit due to lack of attendance), and "I" (Incomplete).
Because courses are condensed into one-week sessions, perfect attendance is required. << Back to top
|
 |
Can classes be audited?
Yes, and when you do, you aren’t required to prepare assignments. Audited courses appear on your transcript although you receive no credit for them. Because attendance is so important, if you miss a class you’ll be termed a visitor, and your transcript won’t show that you audited the course. << Back to top |
 |
Once I graduate, may I still take courses?
We believe learning is lifelong. So we hope you will attend SEE courses as often as you like. << Back to top |
 |
If each class meets only five times, how lenient is the attendance policy?
Because courses are condensed into one-week sessions, missing a little means missing a lot. Perfect attendance is required of all students wishing to receive course credit. << Back to top |
 |
How do I prepare to begin classes?
To get the most out of SEE sessions, we highly recommend reading as many of the required books as possible before you arrive. Once you’re here, you’ll want to pace yourself in your studies, leaving time for reflection as you begin to integrate the material into your spiritual life. << Back to top |
 |
Where can I order recommended and required reading materials?
Books published by Unity House are hyperlinked and available for purchase in our online store. The bookstore located at Unity Village carries additional books, some of which may be listed as required or recommended reading. To purchase books from the Unity Village Bookstore, please call 816-251-3578 Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. << Back

|
 |
Will you allow me to mix and match classes within each session to suit my interests?
We want you to be responsible for your learning and achieve the objectives you’ve set for your spiritual growth. Chances are, the curriculum we recommend will help you reach those goals, and we’ll be glad to help you make changes in your schedule according to your special interests.
Please note that altering the recommended schedule may mean you’ll have to attend more sessions to fulfill your graduation requirements. We hope you’ll understand that upholding the highest standards for everybody means we can’t make exceptions. << Back

Love offerings help keep our programs affordable. Since its inception by the Fillmores, Unity has operated on a love-offering plan, encouraging people to determine the form and amount of their gifts and bless them to continue God’s work. Love offerings received at the Thursday banquets will help Unity provide Spiritual Education and Enrichment Programs that spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and intellectually renew students. << Back to top |

Casual clothes and comfortable walking shoes are suitable for most activities-although you may want to pack something special for the Thursday evening candlelight dinner.
We recommend a sweater and a raincoat for spring and summer activities and a warmer coat for the fall.
The lodging area has laundry facilities. Otherwise, because the only available transportation is by taxi and the nearest shopping center is approximately two miles away, we suggest that you come well supplied with personal items. << Back to top |

How do I find Unity Village? Any travel advice?
Unity Village is fifteen miles southeast of downtown Kansas City-near Lee’s Summit-and forty-five miles southeast of the Kansas City International Airport.
By automobile, take the Colbern Road/Bannister Road exit off Missouri 350 Highway and drive east on Colbern to the Unity campus entrance.
Other modes of transportation:
If you're not driving, ask your travel agent for air, rail, or bus schedules to Kansas City, Missouri. Amtrak has limited east-west service to Lee's Summit. Check with your travel agent for the current schedule. Greyhound/Jefferson bus transportation can be arranged through the downtown Kansas City bus terminal located on Troost. Taxi fare from Kansas City International Airport (MCI) and other transportation terminals to Unity Village is expensive, because of the distance.
We recommend the following shuttle services:
KCI Shuttle: 800-243-6383
Quick Silver: 800-888-8294
Serving You, LLC: 816-522-3582
When making travel arrangements, note that you’ll need to be on campus by 5 p.m. on Sunday, and that all required classes and activities end at 5:30 p.m. Friday. << Back to top |
 |
Will I have access to childcare?
Since all programs are planned for adults, no facilities are provided for the care of children under the age of eighteen. << Back to top |
 |
Is smoking allowed?
All areas inside Unity Village buildings and Unity vehicles are designated smoke-free, including motel rooms and cottages. There are designated smoking areas outside most buildings; a list of these areas will be available to you on arrival. << Back to top |
 |
May I bring my pet?
While special-assistance guide dogs are always welcome, Unity provides no facilities to care for pets. Animals are not permitted in the motels or cottages. Please make other arrangements for your pet while you’re on the Unity campus. << Back to top |
 |
Does Unity provide special-needs assistance?
We can accommodate guests who use wheelchairs or walkers when they are accompanied by a responsible companion. Many of our outside steps have portable ramps, and elevators are available in the major buildings. If you have a special physical requirement, please contact the Reservations office at 816-251-3540. << Back to top |

 |
Will my minister be involved in my training?
Your Unity minister plays an important role in your candidacy and training. He or she recommends you to the program and consults with the Association’s Licensed Teacher Coordinator and with you about your course of study. << Back to top |
 |
How do I apply?
When you’ve completed at least 120 credits of Spiritual Development courses, send a letter of intent cosigned by your Unity minister to the Association’s Licensed Teacher Coordinator. Your letter should indicate your desired focus area (administration, pastoral care, youth education, or adult education) and request an application for admission to the Leadership Development Program.
In response by mail, you’ll receive a packet of information containing an application, practicum requirements, and the Skills Demonstration Seminar requirements. Complete and return the application materials to be considered for candidacy.
Please contact the Licensed Teacher Coordinator for help with or clarification of the application process. << Back to top |
 |
What is a focus area?
Choose to focus your training on administration, pastoral care, youth education, or adult education-depending on how you envision carrying out your Licensed Unity Teacher ministry. A minimum of one year’s training is required for the adult education focus. The other focus areas require a year-and-a-half or more of study. << Back to top |
 |
May I apply my previous experience to the requirements of the program?
All credits earned for the Leadership Development Program must be accrued after your start date in the Program. Previous experience in any focus area-whether it’s on the job or in the classroom-will not count toward your credit requirements. << Back to top |
 |
